چکیده

We propose a new method for the simultaneous interrogation of conventional two-beam interferometers and Bragg grating sensors. The technique employs an unbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer illuminated by a single low-coherence source, which acts as a wavelength-tunable source for the grating and as a path-matched f ilter for the Fizeau interferometer, thus providing a high phase resolution output for each sensor. The grating sensor demonstrates a dynamic strain resolution of ~0.05 microepsilon/ radicalHz at 20 Hz, while the interferometric phase resolution is better than 1 mrad/ radicalHz at 20 Hz, corresponding to an rms mirror displacement of 0.08 nm.

Interrogation of interferometric sensors with a tilted fiber Bragg grating.

This paper describes the interrogation of interferometer-based transducers with a technique that involves the use of a tilted fiber Bragg grating. The interrogation process will be analyzed both from the conceptual and experimental points of view. Simultaneous interrogation of multiplexed interferometric transducers is successfully checked using this technique.

Microwave Photonics for High-Resolution and High-Speed Interrogation of Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors

Conventional fiber Bragg grating sensors have a few limitations, such as limited interrogation resolution and speed and difficulty in separating different measurands. In this article, microwave photonic techniques applied to fiber Bragg grating sensors to improve the interrogation resolution and speed are discussed. Experimental results to validate the techniques are provided.

Quadratic behavior of fiber Bragg grating temperature coefficients.

We describe the characterization of the temperature and strain responses of fiber Bragg grating sensors by use of an interferometric interrogation technique to provide an absolute measurement of the grating wavelength. The fiber Bragg grating temperature response was found to be nonlinear over the temperature range -70 degrees C to 80 degrees C. The nonlinearity was observed to be a quadratic f...

Time-division-multiplexed interrogation of fibre Bragg grating sensors using laser diodes

An intensity-based technique for the interrogation of fibre Bragg grating sensors is described. The technique utilizes two longitudinal modes of a single, pulsed laser diode as a dual-wavelength source for grating illumination. Time-division-multiplexed addressing of sensor arrays in serial and tree topologies is also demonstrated.

Interrogation of Fibre Bragg Grating Sensors Using an Arrayed Waveguide Grating

We experimentally investigate the use of an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) to interrogate fibre Bragg grating (FBG) sensors. A broadband light source is used to illuminate the FBG sensors. Reflected spectral information is directed to the AWG containing integral photodetectors providing 40 electrical outputs. Three methods are described to interrogate FBG sensors. The first technique makes use...
